STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Marled Madness

Though New York Fashion Week has come and gone, here at the Fashion Institute of Technology, students all over campus have been spotted styling looks showcased on the runway. The marled knit trend (seen in the Michael Kors and Jason Wu spring/summer 2016 collections) has gotten a jump-start as a perfect fall choice for these Fashionista/os.

Throughout the years, this material has been used for apparel ranging from pants to hats and even socks. Today knitwear, such as sweaters or cardigans, is the key marled piece to own. Marled knit makes a statement. With various colors of thread or yarn twisted into one, the look is an absolute eye-catcher. Not only is the material beautifully blended together, but also for me marled knit looks extremely cozy, which is the ultimate goal for cold weather on college campuses. The most amazing part of this knit trend is that it can be used for a casual outfit, as well as for a dressed up look, much like this Fashionista has created.

The Fashionista’s white, gray and black-marled cardigan pairs terrifically well with the rest of her outfit, creating an elegant ensemble. Opting for a solid black top and simple scalloped lace skirt, she allows the cardigan to take center stage of the outfit. Accessorizing a solid colored belt with marled knit is an essential way to take a look up a notch, just as this Fashionista has. Her cardigan is certainly on trend, and is perfect for these chilly fall days in the city.

What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love the marled look simply because I can take the colors weaved together, and incorporate them into the other pieces of my outfit. I think that cardigans are an excellent piece to have in your wardrobe because they allow you to make an outfit casual, as well as dressed up.”
