STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Looking Snappy

September 16th, 2015 at 2:10am

Semester start got you feeling a little nerdy? This STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK has a special outfit piece featured that will help keep your skirt up–along with your grades. While in the past suspenders have taken their turn in and out of fashion a fair amount, preppy styles always tend to come back in style around back to school. So get snapping, and enjoy this trend while it lasts.

Suspender skirts add a quirky flare to any get-up. If you are looking to go totally geek chic, pair one up with a contrasting collar blouse. This added touch makes the look’s personality truly shine and reminiscent of the school uniform an Upper-East Sider from Gossip Girl would wear. The black collar coincides very well with the black skirt and straps making it look like the two pieces were made for each other. Another great detail about suspenders is the added interest in the back with crisscross straps that everyone will be eyeing up when you’re sitting pretty in the front row.

Red pointed toe flats help mix things up a bit, making a seemingly innocent style just a little spicy. They also add a pop of color to an otherwise dull wardrobe palette. Any other bright color would do, but we like red to take the look from high school to higher-education style. A pointed toe as opposed to a rounded also builds that balance of sophistication.

While purchasing a suspender skirt may seem a little out of your comfort zone at first, it is without a doubt a fun new twist on the average and over-worn skater skirt that will be sure to turn some heads this fall around campus. Plus, they are enough of a fashion statement on their own and require little accessorizing, which makes them a great pick for days when you want to get dressed up for class, but may not want to put in all the effort it takes to pick a complete ensemble.

So go ahead, be a teacher’s pet this semester! Come to class ready to learn with style that has the smarts to help you ace your tests and strut your stuff straight to the Dean’s List.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “When styling an outfit, I try to choose a piece that creates an eye-catching ensemble. A cute suspender skirt adds an interesting and stylish aspect to make my outfit stand out from the crowd!”
