STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Loafing Around

April 15th, 2015 at 2:00am

Loafers have been a staple in men’s closets for a long time. They have risen to popularity due to their versatility, variety and comfort. Loafers can be found in many different stores, created by many different designers. They can also be found in a variety of browns and black, and they can vary in design. Some designers add buckles and fringe, while others keep it simple. You can even find them with a heel! Because of all the different ways you can find loafers being designed, these shoes can go with anything from a nice pair of shorts and T-shirt to a button-down and jeans.

They are also known for their comfort, which is why I believe most men are drawn to them. The leather they are made from is typically soft, which makes them feel more like slippers than nice shoes! Loafers have become a classic fashion piece in men’s wardrobes, and have even become popular with women as well. Women have just as many options when it comes to loafers, if not more! You can find them flat or with a low heel, or even a tall spiky heel! They typically come in the same color varieties as men, and can be found with similar adornments.

This Fashionisto has paired his classic camel brown loafers with a pair of straight leg, dark wash jeans and a navy and white striped button-down. He has also added a brown and navy belt, which helps pick up the brown from his shoes. His loafers work perfectly here, because they are nice enough to keep up with the button-down, but they also keep the outfit casual because they are a light and soft leather. Had this Fashionisto paired this outfit with a darker and more structured shoe, like a penny loafer, the outfit would have a dressier feel to it.
