STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Flannel Like It's 1999

Crop tops, chokers, shirts tied around your waist and dark lipstick—that’s right, the ‘90s are back! The decade has made a huge comeback. It has made my mom’s old Birkenstocks stylish again and has me wanting to binge-watch Clueless while listening to the Spice Girls. With fall upon us, it’s the perfect time for one of the most famous ‘90s staples, the flannel shirt.

Flannel shirts have been a staple item for a lot of people for quite some time, so how do you make it your own? This Fashionisto certainly lets his personal style shine through while still paying homage to the ’90s. His gray and white flannel button-up is paired perfectly with a witty graphic T-shirt that features Abraham Lincoln. The T-shirt adds a fun touch to the Fashionisto’s ensemble that helps show off his sense of humor. His straight-legged chinos lead down to a pair of Calvin Klein ankle boots. His chinos and boots take his flannel from ‘90s Nirvana grunge to modern day coolness.

Not only does this Fashionisto show his love for the ’90s through his flannel, but he also does it through his accessories. Every kid I knew in the ’90s had a chunky watch with their favorite character on it. This Fashionisto isn’t any different with his chunky sports watch, he’s just missing the cool cartoon character. He finishes his outfit the way any dude from the ’90s would: a snapback. His Hurley snapback hat features a funky rainbow print that reminds me of gel pens. Could he get anymore ’90s? This Fashionisto makes it seem like we are going to be partying like it’s 1999 for quite some time.
