STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dressing Up Gingham

April 22nd, 2015 at 2:00am

Spring is finally here and with spring comes bright colors. This spring I am all about that bright gingham pattern. First off let me make it clear that gingham is not the same as plaid. With a gingham pattern, the fabric is designed with two colors, one almost always being white. Gingham is something that is not designed for a specific style. It can be altered to any wardrobe whether it is preppy, casual, dressy or even vintage; this pattern is guaranteed to be out this spring.

This Fashionisto is wearing a gingham styled button-down by Ralph Lauren. This style button-down is lightweight and can be worn with pants and shorts depending on the occasion! However, by pairing his button-down with white shorts and a watch, he instantly made the look more sophisticated rather than casual. Although this look would be considered “dressed down dressy,” it could also be made more casual with a pair of blue jeans. This trend can be seen in famous runway shows all the way to college campuses like ours. This look is just one of many that can be created with this pattern.

Get creative and play around with fun patterns like this. A gingham button-down is a necessity in any college guy’s closet. This fun styled print is the perfect companion to have and when wearing the pattern, it doesn’t take much to dress it up or down.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t overdo it! Especially in terms of add-ons. One watch is enough for your whole outfit.”
