STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dose of Denim

When many people think of denim, they think Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake (and then Katy Perry and Riff Raff redo) denim overload. Luckily denim has been receiving a long overdue revamp these past few years resulting in more denim-on-denim looks and new ways of incorporating the fabric into our wardrobes. There have been major strides since the bedazzled jeans of the 2000s. While jeans will always remain, the denim skirt is a playful, feminine piece that is a twist on the denim trend, and can be easily incorporated in your wardrobe.

The versatility of jean skirts allows you to dress up or down, depending on the look you want to go for. This Fashionista opted to up her look by pairing her denim skirt with a black top and pink camisole, which added a feminine touch without taking focus away from the rest of the outfit. By pairing the skirt with flats and detailed earrings, this Fashionista transformed a casual jean skirt into a more elegant alternative. Another way to achieve a more put together look is with dark wash pencil skirt and a patterned peasant shirt. These two options emphasize different parts of the body while still achieving a dressier look.

The denim skirt is a great starting base for a wide variety of outfits from casual to classy. With tons of different washes this type of skirt can adapt to a wide variety of looks. As the weather starts to get cooler, these skirts pair perfectly with tights and booties, extending the life of skirt season well beyond the end of summer.
