STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Don’t Get Mad, Get Plaid

On cloudy winter days, a plaid flannel is my cozy, go-to look. In shades of maroon, orange, navy blue and nude, plaid prints scream fall and winter fashion. But for all of the plaid aficionados who can’t get enough gingham print in their wardrobe, you’re in luck because plaid is quickly becoming a year round staple.

Designers like Thakoon, Wes Gordon and Marissa Webb have featured bold plaid prints in bright colors like powder blue, tangerine and mint green for their spring 2016 collections. However, this is not plaid’s warm weather debut. Summer 2015 was all about flannel button-downs tied around high-waisted shorts and casual dresses. Now, plaid is ready to step into the spotlight and take center stage as a bold print for spring and summer 2016 fashion. So, Fashionistas/os should splurge on their favorite plaid patterns and colors for their fall wardrobe because plaid is rapidly becoming a year-round essential.

Fashionistas/os everywhere are seeing nothing but plaid because the complementary prints can be both a great accent piece to an outfit or a bold statement depending on how you style it. Plaid is very versatile and can fit into any style because it can be fashioned in many ways. Plaid flannels can be a great layering piece underneath either a denim jacket for casual style. Try a plaid scarf on top of your favorite cozy knit sweater and watch the Instagram likes rack up. Also, a plaid skirt can take your basic high-collar crop top and create a dynamite, trendy look perfect for a fall afternoon. So if you’re regretting spending your summer savings on ten different plaid prints, not to worry! Fashionista/os will be able to rock every tartan, gingham and madras plaid this season. Have no fear plaid addicts, fall fashion is here.

This Fashionista is sporting a perfect plaid piece that she can wear during fall, winter and into the spring. In a trendy emerald green and gray print with a golden ochre accent, this adorable babydoll plaid dress features a three-quarter length sleeve ideal for the cool breeze of fall that can easily be paired with some leggings or tights for the chilly winter months. To complete her look, this Fashionista pairs her dress with some cute faux leather booties, chic backpack, trendy hat and her favorite statement necklace.
