STYLE ADVICE: Layer it Up

Two thoughts come to mind when preparing for February in Wisconsin. First, I reminisce the sugar-infused, heart-shaped celebrations of love on the 13th and 14th of the month (shout out to Galentine’s Day!). Second, I recall the indecisive weather conditions that plague my winter wardrobe. If you have ever visited the Midwest, you can attest that temperatures can jump from below freezing to fifty degrees and sunny in a matter of days. With spring right around the corner, it’s so tempting to ditch the parka and opt for a sleeker, layered look.

This Fashionista does exactly this! She starts by pairing a light sweater with a black bomber jacket and a pair of black skinny jeans. Although simple, these pieces are essential to creating a solid foundation for a standout look. She then adds a playful scarf, taupe-colored booties, and round-framed sunnies to complete the look. The scarf’s vibrant jewel tones in a plaid pattern create interest in the look while its thick knit material keeps its wearer protected against wavering winds. This look is perfect for days that are warm enough to manage without a heavy coat and allows this Fashionista to show off her classic cool edge.

So when the weather permits, have fun playing around with lighter layers. Believe it or not, the endless winter will soon be over, and spring will breathe new inspiration into our wardrobes. In the meantime, find ways to incorporate both winter and spring pieces into your outfits and dare to rework older pieces in unexpected ways. After all, fashion is a constant cycle of the past made new again.
