How to Not Lose Your Craving for Adventure This Semester

With fall semester back in full swing, the endless amount of responsibilities we suddenly have again can hit us like that first exam date of the semester. Classes, internships, jobs, and the deadlines that come along with each of these can have you feeling overwhelmed and wishing you had the freedom of summer back. The good news is that just because summer is over, doesn’t mean your craving for adventure has to be.

1—Cure a case of wanderlust

If you have a strong case of wanderlust, a free weekend, and a couple of friends, don’t let a busy semester stop you from traveling. A good road trip complete with old-school jams and convenient store snacks can take your mind off of any semester stress. Even if you don’t have a destination in mind, a change of scenery can work wonders. As Taylor Swift once said, “In this moment now capture it, remember it.” Stop to take photos. The best memories are made when you least expect it, and candid photos make for the best laughs.

2—Find your town’s hidden gems

You may never know what kind of local gems your town holds until you go out and explore. Especially if you’re in a new town for college, finding go-to spots in town will make you feel more at home. Track down the coffee shops and brunch spots in town. Visit a local bookstore and find a story to get lost in. Stop in a new restaurant and try a food you never have before. Talk to shop owners, learn their stories, and share yours.

3—Create a travel bucket list

Grab a piece of paper and a pen and make a travel bucket list. Actively keeping a travel bucket list will keep the adventure inside of you alive. Start with places you’ve always wanted to visit and add destinations as you research unknown cities. Even if you feel like you’ll never get the chance to visit a certain place, you never know where life will take you.

4—Send handwritten notes

Adventure doesn’t always have to mean traveling somewhere new or discovering an unfamiliar place. Adventure can be doing something you normally don’t do. Sending handwritten notes is something not many people do anymore, and you’d be surprised at the happiness you can feel just by reaching out to someone. Send a thank you note. Tell someone you miss them. Wish your friend in another town a happy birthday. Just say hello to an old friend. Writing an address on an envelope, sticking a stamp in the corner, and sealing it the old-fashioned way seems like an adventure in itself in this day and age.
