FASHION FROM ABROAD: Keep It Cool

Italians typically dress up for their daily tasks. Whether they’re running to the market to pick up ingredients for dinner or headed to the office for work, you will rarely spot a local wearing sweatpants or a T-shirt. In a city full of art, history and well-dressed civilians, pulling together chic looks for everyday is a must.

In Florence, Italy, it seems like summer packed up and left in a hurry. You know what that means: when the weather turns cooler, so does the wardrobe color palette. It’s out with the warm hues, and in with the greens and blues, fashion friends.

This Fashionista stepped out in an outfit that is perfect for morning class and perhaps a museum in the afternoon. Black skinny jeans and a long sleeve black T-shirt read like a monochrome canvas begging to be decorated with fall colors. This Fashionista did just that. Her wool jacket serves as a statement piece, drawing in the eye with deep hues of blue, forest green and goldenrod pinstripes. The checked pattern gives off a collegiate vibe with a dash of Blair Waldorf flair. Along the sleeves, flowing fringe makes the jacket truly unique by adding texture and a bit of movement as you walk across the cobblestone streets. Don’t forget to look both ways for Vespas, of course.

A dramatic belt buckle breaks up the monochrome look underneath the jacket. Finally, stylish yet practical loafers make for an ideal walking shoe and a tan oversized tote bag dutifully carries everything from your notebooks to your cappuccino money. Brava.

Whether you’re on an urban campus in Italy or in a college town in the Midwest, dressing well for class can change your entire outlook for the day. Cool weather. Check. Cool color palette. Check. Cool outfit. Checkmate.
