FASHION FROM ABROAD: Black is the New Black

November 18th, 2016 at 2:10am

Happy fall Fashionistas! The holiday season is fast approaching and my time in Italy is flying by. We had a late start on the fall weather here, but we are finally pulling out the chunky sweaters and seeing the leaves change. All in one week I went from wearing light-weight dresses to layering up. It is an odd transition, but this Fashionista has got it down.

Black is a color that will never steer you wrong. It looks good on everyone and with everything. Europeans seem to love black just as much, considering that I see at least ten people wearing black leather jackets just from my walk to school. In this case, this Fashionista swapped out the leather jacket for a black slim long coat. This creates a sophisticated look that can elevate any outfit. This cozy black turtleneck sweater makes me want to sit on a couch with hot chocolate in front of a fireplace. In other words, it is the perfect staple piece for fall/winter. This giving key necklace is a simple accessory with a lovely message behind it. They have encouraging words engraved on them and the concept is to pass them along to people who you feel need the motivation or reminder. Classic distressed denim is just the right contrast from the refined look on top. Lastly, we have these awesome black leather oxford loafers. My roommates and I are obsessed with this style of shoe and have tried to snag a quality pair. We have a bit of an advantage considering that we live in Florence, which is known for it’s leather craft. Thankfully some of our favorites sell online, such as NeroGiardini (refer to the shoe link).

What I have learned from European fashion is that on any given day, just pull out your favorite basic pieces and layer them up in new ways. Just because a piece is simple, neutral or plain doesn’t mean you can’t play around with it to create a fun, chic look!
