BEAUTY BAR: Going Au Natural—Almost

Let’s face it: some days are better than others. I am entirely too guilty of claiming I “woke up on the wrong side of the bed” and then writing off an entire day as a bad day. If my hair doesn’t lay right or even if one eyeliner wing is longer than the other, I just don’t feel as put together. However, I’ve learned a few tricks to combat unfortunate makeup mishaps. When you get in a hurry and you still want to look like you gave at least a little effort, natural-looking makeup is a foolproof plan.

This petite Fashionista caught my eye with her fun, patterned shorts, but it was her subtle yet sparkling makeup that really made me do a double-take. Her bold color combination was offset by her nude lip color from MAKE UP FOR EVER and eye-catching lashes thanks to Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara. Her small amount of contouring gave her cheekbones a nice shimmer without taking away from those adorable freckles. As much as I appreciate (and envy) the ability to pull off dark, eye shadow, this Fashionista is a perfect reminder that a little can go a long way in terms of makeup.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To make this look your own, start with a light foundation and contour only slightly. This will give you a healthy glow without looking like you just laid in the sun for nine hours. Next try a nude- to fair-colored lipstick, and finish the look off with a voluminous mascara of your choosing. You’ll be sure to look put together with minimal effort involved. That sounds like a win-win to me.
