BEAUTY BAR: Fall-ing for Dark Lips

It’s autumn! The leaves are changing, and so are our wardrobes. There’s nothing like the feeling of swapping out shorts and tanks for sweaters and scarves and finally feeling some brisk air. While summer is all about warm, pretty and light tones, fall is all about the purples, reds and browns. This is the perfect season to try out new lip colors—taking an experimental break from the soft pinks in summer and the deep reds in winter. Dark lips are totally in right now—another example of ’90s trends coming back in style, along with everything from mom jeans to chokers.

To get more bang for your buck, something such as Kylie Cosmetics’ “Kourt K” or “True Brown” are two perfect fall colors. As for skin tone, this Fashionista is fair-skinned and blonde, which is why the dark purple color works so well on her. If you have darker skin or darker hair, browns and reds will complement you perfectly. If you’re like me and are convinced that you can’t pull these bold colors off, something a little lighter such as Urban Decay’s Vice Lipstick in “Pallor” is a great choice. However, autumn is the perfect time to experiment and step out of your comfort zone with makeup. This Fashionista is wearing Urban Decay’s Vice Lipstick in “Jawbreaker,” and is pulling the look together with brown eyeshadow and french braids—and a poncho to match the lip color and keep her warm in the crisp weather. As we all know when it comes to makeup, less is more. Make sure not to over-do it. If you go for the dark, bold lip, go for a more simple eye-makeup look with light browns, and try swapping out your black liner for a brown one. Do some experimenting and see what colors work best for you. You may be surprised with the results!
