Name: Dion Buchanan

Role: Fashion Designer

CollegeFashionista: What made you interested in the fashion industry?

Dion Buchanan: My grandparents owned a retail business in Japan that exposed me to design. Designing, to me, is likea way to always be connected to them in this lifetime.

CF: How would you describe your designs?

DB: My designs are all driven by emotions. It’s hard to define my design style. I’m ever-changing as a being, so my design will always be inconsistent. But I’m infatuated with conveying intimacy in a simplistic design.

CF: What does your personal style compose of?

DB: Lots of vintage pieces from my mom. Lots of dark clothing, but I thrift and find bargains to help express the mood I am in for the day.

CF: Favorite designer/art influence?

DB: I love the painter, Alexander Cabanel because of his intrinsic portrait paintings. Rei Kawakubo is also very intelligent and naturally intriguing. But I appreciate and look up to most small designers for approaching fashion and design so fearlessly.
