ALL IN THE DETAILS: The Yin and Yang of Colors and Patterns

December 15th, 2015 at 2:00am

I have always been a big believer in color. I love wearing reds, pinks, purples, blues and oranges: staple colors that I have to have in my closet. It matches my bubbly personality and gives me a unique touch to my look. I also love patterns. Whether that is floral, embellished, artsy, checkered or any other pattern out there! However, it can be tricky at times styling colors and patterns at the same time. I struggle sometimes to find what pair of shoes and accessories to wear that will not overshadow the other pieces. I want a balance between all my pieces and to not look like I tried too hard. So when I ran into this Fashionista, I knew I had to have her on my blog. She created the perfect balance between color and pattern for this fall season.

What first caught my eye was her blouse. The blouse has two layers with two different patterns. Fashionistas need to careful when combining two patterns because you do not want patterns to clash. However, the artistic and woodsy patterns worked perfectly together because one complements the other while not overshadowing it. That is the key when playing with textures and colors. I also love the splash of colors on the blouse, too. There is blue, green, black, gray and even brown. What gives it even more of an edge are the sleeves. The knit sleeves bring the blouse a nice contrast from the sheer top. It’s also perfect for fall because you will look cute, but also stay warm.

It is great that this Fashionista kept it simple when it comes to pants. She paired the blouse with crisp, black pants, but if you want to dress it down, dark wash jeans would be great, too. Lastly, she created a pop of color by adding gray booties. This is probably my favorite element. She did not stick to the norm by putting on black or brown boots, which would have worked, but had fun with it. A bright bootie with a little texture, such as the lining on the front, the dark seams, and wood heels, gave the outfit an extra edge while still not taking away from the blouse.

How To: This outfit would be perfect to wear for an internship or work. All you need is a colorful, patterned blouse, black pants and your favorite booties. Now you are all set to work in style!
