ALL IN THE DETAILS: Sock It To Me

October 15th, 2015 at 2:00am

When I think of fall style, I think of earth tones, pumpkin spice lattes, and my Frye boots I’ve worn for three seasons straight. Pairing frilly thigh-high socks with boots used to be a fall staple, but with the comeback of adidas and New Balance, it’s out with the old and in with the new. You’ve seen the celebrities do it (I’m looking at you, Kendall Jenner) and at first I was apprehensive that this look would stick. But the new trend of pairing sneakers with everything (I used to think that the tennis shoes and dresses look was delegated for my Grandma) isn’t going anywhere. With new trends come new ways to accessorize, so this week we’re focusing on “sock game,” and how to make it work.

One of my absolute fall staples are these Athleta Joggers, which you can wear with virtually anything. This Fashionista paired hers with a maroon top, also from Athleta. This look can be categorized as “sporty-chic,” which is one of my favorite trends right now. Dressing up workout clothes is easy-and not to mention super comfortable. The “athleisure” look’s popularity is showing no signs of stopping, and this Fashionista does it perfectly.

New Balance has a ton of new styles out, but my go-to pair are their retro sneakers you can find here. Best part about them? Ample opportunities to show of your sock game. My advice would be to go with a neutral color, such as grey or black, as shown on this Fashionista. This way, you can accessorize in other ways. With tons of patterns and styles, Stance is the best place to find amazing socks. Their colorful prints are the perfect way to complete any look. Pairing this look with a simple color works as well (but wearing crazy patterns is more fun). Sock game? On point.

How To: Mixing colors and prints is your friend! Don’t be worried about being matchy-matchy; think outside of the box when accessorizing your fall look.
