ALL IN THE DETAILS: Pop Of Prep

March 30th, 2015 at 2:00am

Even though the weather still may not be warm enough for our Jack Rogers sandals and Lilly Pulitzer dresses, it doesn’t mean that our outfits can’t have a flirty and preppy vibe. During this in-between season, it’s all about taking fun, preppy elements and layering them with sturdy, basic staple pieces. This Fashionista embodies exactly what it means to do so.

Her burnt orange pullover sweater gives a warm and rustic vibe to this ensemble and is a nice change from the plethora of black and gray that we have been seeing the past few months. Her light-washed chambray shirt layered underneath the sweater was perfect in giving this outfit a pop of prep.

As I’ve stated in the past, chambray shirts are a must for college girls and will probably be the most versatile piece in your closet. I absolutely love how she decided to button the shirt to the very top, giving a different twist to chambray that some are not brave enough to do. I also can’t get enough of layered shirts being cuffed, and I am obsessed with how she let the chambray peak through.

She went with a jean of a darker wash than the top, which is key when wearing denim on denim. The dark jean really allowed the sweater to pop, while a lighter pant would not. I am obsessed with her oxford-inspired shoes, still keeping the preppy feel but giving off a hipster vibe at the same time.

How To: Craving warmer days even though your weather app says the high is 40? Layer it up! You can never go wrong with chambray as seen here. Worn over pants and flats, a dress and heels or a maxi with booties, it’s sure to be a hit!
