ALL IN THE DETAILS: Mixing Media

November 28th, 2016 at 2:00am

Here in D.C., it’s finally starting to get cold, which means the Fashionistas around campus are breaking out their tights and coats. Cold weather doesn’t have to mean boring black everything, though. Sweaters are a great way to incorporate different patterns and textures into your outfits that also keep you warm in freezing classrooms. Tights can also play a big role in outfits; fun colors and patterns can spice up any plain outfit.

I’m lucky enough to share a room with this trendsetting Fashionista. Here she fearlessly pairs a sequin dress (something people usually reserve for New Year’s Eve) with a chunky sweater that features her favorite food: pizza. You can easily turn traditionally nighttime pieces into daywear by adding a fun sweater on top. She finishes the look off by adding tights on the bottom to keep her legs safe from the wind, her worn-in comfy brown booties, and a classic plaid coat. The mixture of the coat, sweater and sequins give the outfit a great balance of different media.

Thanks to this Fashionista you can now feel comfortable wearing all your favorite pieces no matter the occasion or time of day. She also demonstrates how to mix different textures to create a style that looks effortless and super fun. If you’re not keen on wearing a pizza sweater, texture can be a super easy way to change up your all-black ensemble. So remember: cold weather doesn’t have to be boring! Just play around to find looks that suit your personality and style best!
