ALL IN THE DETAILS: Marching Into Fall

Fall is my favorite time of the year: dressing up for Halloween, leaves turning from green to crimson and eating caramel apples and pumpkin pie. But, the transition from summer to fall can be the most confusing time for fashion. The mornings are cold, and then in the afternoon the temperature heats up, so getting dressed in the morning becomes dreadful. The best way to go is to wear a light jacket with anything from a dress to a pair of jeans and a T-shirt.

This Fashionista opted for a simple black dress from the Gap and a standout camouflage jacket that she actually picked up at a local Halloween store for her costume last fall, but which you can find on various clothing websites like Nasty Gal.

I’m a big fan of wearing neutral colors and then dressing up the outfit with bold accessories. To me, all the little details make an outfit. The first thing that you notice when you look at this outfit is the camouflage jacket that takes a simple black dress to the next level. I love that this Fashionista recycled this piece from her Halloween costume from last year, and uses it as a statement piece in her regular wardrobe now. We all know it’s a struggle to find a cheap costume that you can take pieces from and use after Halloween, which is honestly the goal if you spend a lot of money on your costume.

The other accessories, a burgundy choker from Forever 21 and burgundy Converse, tie in a fall theme to the outfit by adding a warm color scheme. Burgundy, mustard and a brownish-orange or chocolate brown are popular fall colors, and can be worked into any fall outfit through a jacket, jewelry and a purse or some shoes.

As we get deeper into fall, the breeze will start to pick up, and if you go to school on an urban campus, you’re going to be freezing walking around in a dress. So, to change up this outfit from working in a limbo season to actual fall you can swap out the dress for some high-waisted jeans and a cropped long sleeve shirt with some boots and a scarf.

Whether it’s a statement jacket, thigh-high boots or a bold purse, take some inspiration from the beautiful season that is fall and create some outfits that can turn heads this season!
