ALL IN THE DETAILS: Keeping Up With The Kimonos

September 15th, 2015 at 2:00am

As summer comes to a close, the days feel a little shorter and the nights are a little cooler. Honestly, it can be tricky to dress for the transition to fall. A favorite piece of mine has always been the kimono. It is perfect for this time of year because it is lighter than a sweater or jacket and adds a little something extra to an outfit. While the kimono has been around in Japan since the first century, this worldwide mainstream trend really began last summer. Lightweight and versatile, it is the perfect piece for fall, spring and summer. Literally every store from Forever 21 to Urban Outfitters to Saks Fifth Avenue sells kimonos!

This Fashionista has added a fun twist to the typical “jeans and tank top” outfit. This flowy, colorful kimono from Forever 21 adds a pop of color to her chic street style. Her outfit, complete with trendy sandals, is ideal for class, running errands or meeting a friend for lunch. The kimono can also be part of a great outfit for a night out on the town. A sheer, black kimono with fringe is the ideal edition to a simple dress. Throw on some wedges and you are ready for drinks with the girls or even a first date.

How To: Use a kimono to complete an easy daytime outfit or to add a little something after the sun goes down. Invest in a colorful or floral print to pair with jeans and a simple top. A sheer or lace black kimono is a sexy option for nighttime.
