ALL IN THE DETAILS: Get a Jump-Start This School Year

Now that many summer activities are dwindling down and college move-in dates are fast approaching, it is time to get a jump-start on your back to school style. Unfortunately it is time to put away your bathing suits and sun hats, and walking around in a cover-up probably won’t fly at school. Guess that means your summer wardrobe is a no go. Even though this seems like a major let down, one good thing does come out of the back to school season; shopping!

Transitioning into the crispier weather can be tricky. When searching for new outfit contenders, it is best to shop for pieces that provide a bit more coverage (so maybe you should pass on those denim booty shorts.) It is also smart to look for clothes that are multi-functional and that can be layered and worn throughout the entire year.

I spotted this Fashionista at our back to school welcome dinner, and her outfit flawlessly fits the transitional look I described. Her jumpsuit is a perfect summer-to-fall piece due to the fact that it still says, “Hey, I’m carefree, comfy and ready for anything.” But at the same time its full-length bottom provides coverage for those cooler nights that you forgot about, while the strapless top allows it to be dressed up or down for any occasion. Additionally, the jumpsuit’s adorable Aztec navy pattern is flirty and fun making it versatile for any season. Her neutral shoes and wedges allow for a functional look, while her floral statement necklace lets us know that it’s not time to say goodbye to summer just yet!

As you begin packing up your closets and moving into your home away from home, think about which pieces you will be able to wear for a majority of the school year (because we all know dorm closets aren’t the roomiest!) Think smart, but more importantly, have fun playing with your own style this school year.

How To: Mix and match colors, textures and prints like she did here with her Aztec pattern, bold red lip and wedge shoes.
