ALL IN THE DETAILS: Flannel Season

The winter chill is finally in the air, and we are officially entering into the anything-pumpkin-flavored obsession. With that being said, it’s time to break out our flannels for maximum fall wear. During this weather, flannels are constantly my go-to, and you would be surprised with just how many flannels I actually own that are in fact men’s flannels. This weather does tend to trigger many of us to become lackadaisical and throw on our leggings and top it off with a button down.

Instead of rolling out of bed and going on with the day, why not keep the comfy factor while looking a little more confident and put together? You can wear a flannel everywhere: to your lecture hall, brunch, outings and even your job.

In this article, I am going to be explaining how versatile these shirts can actually be in one’s wardrobe. This stylish Fashionista I spotted on campus was rocking it head-to-toe with her fall fashion. She was wearing a basic plaid shirt that was breaking up a monochrome theme within her entire outfit. Included in her outfit were dark wash skinny jeans, a basic smoky-grey cropped sweater that showed some edge to her appearance and her knee-high boots that made her outfit become more feminine and unique. Knee-high boots have become an extremely desired item this upcoming season, and I can foresee them being the highlight of many outfits as the season carries on. My Fashionista also explained that since the weather is still in that transition period, whenever she is layering with a flannel and becomes too hot, she ties it around her waist and completely transitions her look to seem as if it is a new outfit.

Other ways to create a statement outfit with a flannel are as followed: you can pair flannels with a statement T-shirt that says something about your look (I love when people wear vintage band shirts with this concept), you can be more preppy with your style and tuck the flannel in to get a more refined silhouette and pair it off with tights, knee high socks and boots, make it work-appropriate with a chic cape or poncho sweater and booties, dress it up with your favorite statement accessories, layer it up for those chilly days under a vest for that extra comfort and warmth and add a chunky knitted cable scarf with a pair of boyfriend jeans and sneakers.

These are just some of the many ways where anyone, whether you are a Fashionista/o can rock that flannel during the fall. What I love about this look is how simple, yet versatile, the plaid shirt can be in a person’s wardrobe. There are so many ways a flannel can be worn, so don’t be afraid to experiment this season!
