ALL IN THE DETAILS: Color Me Happy

When was the last time you wore something and it instantly made you feel happy? Well, color has the ability to mimic one’s mood but also alter it. For instance, on a rainy day I prefer to wear a bright coral rain jacket as a distraction from the environment. It is my way of shaking my fist toward the sky without looking like a crazy lady. Essentially, whatever color we dip ourselves into immediately impacts how we feel and how we are perceived.

This is a Fashionista that doesn’t let the chilly winter get the best of her spirit. Her mustard yellow sweater is a reminder that spring isn’t too far off and the rich, golden color radiates a warm confidence and adds personality. The red plaid flats add an extra swish of color that makes your eyes dance from the top to the bottom of her outfit with delight. Adorning the outfit with yellow gold rings help pull the warm color from the sweater and shoes to other parts of the look.

Even though the color in the outfit is the focal point, let us not overlook the texture in this ensemble either! To add texture to a look, you can incorporate a lot of volume by adding layers or by also mix matching contrasting fabrics. Texture creates a landscape of details worth noting and keeps your outfit from falling flat. Here, the faux fur vest creates a flurry over the chunky sweater and the sequined shoes add a glint of light. The details in this outfit is like a caffeine kick for the eyes.

The key to wearing color is confidence! It sounds silly and cliché, but it is true. If you’re not comfortable with what you are wearing it will show. It will show in the way you walk, the way you stand, and the way you communicate with others. However, a good way to weave it into your day-to-day wardrobe is to pick one of your favorite colors and buy an accessory like a bag and make it the pop of color. This small statement leaves room to grow and shouldn’t leave you feeling like an actual rainbow—Skittles, anyone?

Whichever way you choose to adorn yourself, if it has been awhile since you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone with color… the time is now my friends. Put on your mirrored sunnies and let’s get mauving!
