5 Spring Cleaning Hacks to Make Tidying Up Easier

spring cleaning hacks

I know the thought of spring cleaning probably runs a few chills down your arm. Sure, it can be incredibly satisfying to dig through everything you own and clear out what you don’t need, but it can be stressful too. That mountain of clothes sitting on a chair in your room isn’t the most encouraging thing. Fear not, there are a few things you can do to make your spring cleaning experience a bit more enjoyable and successful with these spring cleaning hacks.

Make a Game Plan

It is daunting to take a step back and realize how many unnecessary things you own. Because of that, the first of the spring cleaning hacks is to make a game plan. How are you going to approach that piled high chair or bulging dresser? Sit down and decide what areas you want to work on that day. Don’t worry if you can’t finish it all in one day. It’s better to be effective and work in small sections instead of doing a poor job organizing everything. Have all your cleaning supplies ready to go, as well as a couple of trash bags for donations or trash. Create steps for cleaning each area too. For example: remove items, wipe area clean, categorize items, and return neatly to shelf. Preparing effectively for a day of cleaning can lead to less stress in the future.

Tackle One Area at a Time

As previously stated, you might consider committing to just a small section for each day. We don’t all have an entire weekend to dedicate to spring cleaning. Instead designate small sections like your desk, your dresser, or under your bed for that day. This will ease the stress of spending an entire day digging through your belongs. The last thing you need is to be burnt out when you are only half way through. Just focus on one area at a time.

Be Honest with Yourself

When it comes to really digging through your belongings, it’s important to be honest and even a little harsh with yourself. Do you really need those three identical black belts? Will you ever wear that dress if you don’t feel confident in it? Look at each item you have and decide whether it really adds value to your life. If it doesn’t, toss it in the re-sale or garbage pile. It’s important to stay honest and strong throughout the entire cleaning process in order to effectively sort through everything you own.

Keep a Positive Mindset

With all of these spring cleaning hacks, it’s important to keep your mental state in mind. A positive mindset can be your best friend in this spring cleaning process. Let’s be honest, it’s hard to get rid of things you’ve had for a long time even if you know you don’t need them. Instead of thinking about everything you are getting rid of, think about the quality of what will remain. At the end of the process, you should feel confident in everything in your closet or on your bookshelf. With spring cleaning comes clarity in what really matters to you. Keep your end-goal in mind throughout the whole process.

Team Up

If you struggle with making tough decisions about what you own or lose motivation easily, invite a trusting friend to help out. Make sure you pick someone who will be honest with you in helping you decided what you need and what you don’t. Having a friend their can also make it much more entertaining and can help to keep you motivated as you tackle each new section.
