5 Films With Great Female Roles

I personally love film and can spend hours talking about it. But I can’t deny the fact that the roles given to actresses are often limited by the typical stereotypes we fight everyday to get rid of.

The film industry still has a lot work to do when it comes to representing women and showing the many beautiful sides we all inhibit and share. So when I come across movies that finally have female roles that are so much more than the damsel in distress, but instead highlight their strength and their ability to persevere, these usually become my favorites. They serve as an inspiration to fuel my creativity, stay positive, keep going and never give up. They are a reminder that women can indeed do anything and can accomplish anything they put their minds too.

So of course, I had to bring to light five awesome movies with great female roles who I just can’t get enough of!

1. Kat Stratford played by Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You

Kat Stratford is all levels of cool and a total feminist. She is smart, independent, strong, and not afraid to speak her mind ever. She doesn’t care about what others think of her and she truly believes in her ability to conquer anything she puts her mind too. She’s unapologetically herself and I live for every moment of it! 2. Katniss Everdeen played by Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games

If there is one character that has gone through the worst of times, it is definitely Katniss Everdeen. I honestly loved watching this character so much because no matter the odds and how bad things would get she never gave up. She became the voice of the people and she fought for the greater good. She wasn’t selfish, always remained a fighter, and was willing to do anything to save everyone. (Photo via @imdb)

3. Elle Woods played by Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde

When I think of an iconic female character I can’t help but think of Elle Woods. She was the perfect representation that you could care about fashion and also slay in the world of law. She defied everyone’s expectations and proved that women can be so much more than just a pretty face! (Photo via @theodysseyonline)

4. Mia Dolan played by Emma Stone in La La Land

This movie is definitely one of my favorites. Mia Dolan is such a sincere and genuine character who has dreams and aspirations just like everyone else. She goes on so many auditions and even creates her own one woman show; and proves she can be the very best she can be as long as she believes it and wants it. She’s so inspiring to watch and shows us that a dream can become a reality, all you have to do is try and never give up. (Photo via @moviestillsdb)

5. Andrea Sachs played by Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada

Andrea Sachs deserves all the awards for standing up for herself and doing the impossible. She is the perfect representation that if you work hard and put in the work you can get somewhere. Her character is strong, but also has a vulnerable side that is relatable to many who sometimes doubt themselves and lose hope. This is what makes her real. There’s a little bit of her in all of us. Here’s to hoping more powerful and inspiring women come alive and are represented on screen.
