STYLE GURU BIO: Nadine Fuller

Hi, I’m Nadine! I’m currently a sophomore at Cornell University studying earth systems with prospective minors in climate change and business. This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I’m so excited to become a part of the CollegeFashionista community!

Basically (emphasis on basic), I’m an avid Instagram user, I enjoy reading up on beauty trends and products, masking-and-Netflix, and am absolutely obsessed with the color pink. My initiation to fashion began by accompanying my mom shopping and my style is equally influenced by her gravitation towards classic, elegant pieces as a select amalgamation of current trends. Recently, in an effort to limit the ecological footprint of my wardrobe (I’m fun, I know), I’ve given up fast fashion and promised myself to refrain from buying items that are not either vintage or sustainably produced.

Currently, my involvement in fashion is limited to my personal daily style choices and my involvement with an on-campus fashion magazine. Beginning this semester I am the creative director for the Thread Magazine and am excited to explore the intersection between media and fashion through print and digital platforms. As an environmentalist, I’d also like to explore further the impact of fashion, especially fast fashion, on Earth and understand how best to mitigate the effects.

As I transition my clothes, my outfits are a mix of eco-conscious items and conventionally produced ones. For instance, in this look I’m wearing a hand-me-down, short-sleeved cotton turtleneck tucked into a pair of vintage Levi’s 501s and cinched with a vintage black patent leather YSL belt. I completed the look with a satin-finish bomber jacket and thin, silver hoops to modernize, then with rubber Chelsea rain boots for practicality.

As the semester goes on, I hope to provide a unique perspective on campus fashion and encourage you to think more critically about your closets, and maybe just prove you can save the earth without sacrificing style.
