ALL IN THE DETAILS: Thrifting Into The New Year

Who said mixing brown and black was a fashion don’t? Personally, mixing the two colors is one of my favorites, and apparently this Fashionista’s favorite, too! She has perfected this go-to vintage look on a cold, windy day on the east coast.

This Fashionista beat the cold and stayed warm in her faux suede coat with faux shearling. Inspired by the jacket worn by Penny Lane in Almost Famous, this jacket transforms any outfit into a ’70s hippie era inspired look. She originally found this jacket at her local second hand clothing shop, but similar jackets can be easily found in other vintage shops or in stores today.

Underneath the statement jacket, she is wearing a velvet detailed shirt. The unpredictable pop of color is noticed when you take a closer glance. The velvet detailing is a dark green—the perfect subtle pop of color for a gloomy day. Velvet was a huge trend this fall and winter and this shirt is an ideal way to reflect your love for velour without becoming a victim of the new bandwagon.

I am completely in awe with the smallest detail of the outfit: the brown belt. Belts can tie together an entire outfit and are the perfect statement pieces for any look. Her way of using up the excess belt is innovative and fashionable; the knotted tie is my favorite aspect. The casual and easygoing knot she creates seamlessly brings together the outfit by wrapping the excess belt under the band around her waist, then pulling it under the original piece that was used to construct the knot. Her ability to create such a small detail (that would oftentimes go unnoticed) has such a profound impact on the appearance—this signifies a true Fashionista!

She finishes off the look with black booties and black ripped jeans—both are essentials to any Fashionista/o’s closet. And just to carry her phone and necessities, she uses a beige crossbody bag with gold detailing.

All three of my favorite pieces from the outfit are thrifted (the jacket, shirt and belt), so make sure you are continuously checking what pieces your local stores have! Who knows, you may even find a gem! (My extreme bias towards thrifting has prevailed!)

We certainly learned today that details do matter and details are crucial for success.
