STYLE GURU STYLE: Giving Cold Weather the Cold Shoulder

Happy November to all of my stylish readers! It’s officially my favorite time of the year—and especially my favorite month. By the time this post comes out, I will be out of my teens and into my twenties. November is always jam-packed for me, not only with my birthday but with several of my closest friends’ birthdays too. And can we can’t forget family activities when Thanksgiving rolls around. With so many celebrations coming up, it can get tricky when figuring out what to wear. So, I decided to gather some inspiration from one of the coolest fall 2016 couture runway shows by Alexandre Vaulthier.

I loved the color story of the entire show—transitioning from rich olives and dusty browns to soft taupes and edgy blacks. I felt as if Vaulthier knew my exact style and created an entire show just for me. Although I’ll continue dreaming about his show for days, I decided the next best thing is to be able to take his color palette and turn it into something more realistic for my the busy schedule ahead of me.

One thing I noticed that Vaulthier kept consistent throughout the entirety of his collection was drawing attention to the models shoulders, whether it be with boxy silhouettes or bare skin. What’s better than this adorable off-the-shoulder sweater from one of my go-to shopping destinations, Bluetique? What I love about this is that it’s lightweight, so you can still move around without feeling too stuffy when you’re out and about. I also found the perfect olive green suede skirt to compliment it. I think the exposed zipper on the side gives it more of an edgy feel, making it easy to transition it from day to night.

Vaulthier did a great job of accessorizing his pieces with killer heels, so I had to live up to his show. Lucky for me, living in a sorority house has it perks, and thanks to my 50+ sisters, I have endless closets to borrow from (which helped complete my outfit with my roommate’s taupe lace-up booties)! I decided to stick with simple gold jewelry to tie this look together with my Chi Omega bar necklace and tortoise shell watch. Finally the perfect-sized bag fits all of my essentials and breaks up these fall shades. From birthday bashes to family outings, I’m ready to take on whatever November throws at me!
