STYLE GURU BIO: Kerry Snider

Hello Sunbeams! My name is Kerry Snider and I’m a sophomore at Loyola University Chicago. I’d like to double major in campfire songs and feelings but until that’s recognized as a stable profession, anthropology-sociology and journalism will have to do.

I like coconut milk, referring to plants as my children and the moon. My main style inspirations are hippy english teachers, Anne of Green Gables, Frida Khalo and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Currently, my favorite trends are underwear as outerwear, embroidered jeans, female empowerment and over-the knee-boots.

When I grow up, I want to tell people’s stories. Clothing gives us the opportunity to tell our story to everyone we see. We can choose to reflect who we want to be and we’re given the freedom to change that reflection every day as we grow into bigger and better people. In the words of Blair Waldorf, “Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design, and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be. Just like your scarf suggests you’d like to sell used cars.” Clothes give us the ability to reflect our power. You don’t have to wear stilettos and blazers all day to project that, necessarily. You can reflect power by dressing in something that gives you confidence.I chose to reflect my power in a breezy pinky-peach dress and Birkenstocks because that’s the best version of me. Also because it was very warm out. Also because I saw a picture of Jane Birkin wear something similar. On that note, I bid you adieu, sunflowers. Go shine, drink lots of water and be nice to one another.
