STYLE GURU STYLE: Sky's the Limit

As an avid shoe enthusiast, I am always looking for excuses to add a new pair to my collection. Despite my love for the caged sandal and the platform pump, there are only so many occasions to sport heels in college life. This dilemma has led me towards shoe purchases in more practical styles, causing me to continuously seek out new trends to support my shoe obsession sans the high-heel.

During the search for my latest pair, I gained inspiration from the over-the-knee boots in the Rodarte and Isabel Marant fall 2015 ready-to-wear collections. These designers balanced the height of the boot with shorter hemlines and outfits in cohesive color palettes. While this trend also flocked the runway last fall, I was hesitant to pick up it up not knowing if it would last. Against my skepticism, this trend has continued to persist and has become a wardrobe staple of many of my favorite fashion bloggers, so I was finally convinced to invest in my own pair of sky-high boots.

In this ensemble, I tried to incorporate the over-the-knee trend while still remaining both relaxed and fashion-forward. I layered a mixture of comfortable and edgy pieces in different textures and utilized a dark color palette to create a look that emphasized the boots without exaggerating their proportions. Although this trend may look intimidating, these boots are just as practical as they are stylish. They can be transitioned from day to night looks and can be paired with jeans, dresses or skirts.
