STYLE GURU STYLE: It's Turtle Time

Karl Lagerfeld’s Brasserie showcase of Chanel’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear rocked the fashion world. The show gave the viewers a very realistic presentation of models living and socializing in his designs, a stark contrast to the traditional impersonal and serious runways we see from most designers. The show was filled with whimsical separates, outerwear and dresses in a palette of mostly neutrals with noticeable splashes of color, especially reds, pinks and purples. Lagerfeld also featured Chanel’s classic cap-toe shoe which has become insanely hot this season. What stood out to me the most from the show were the pops of red, an exciting surprise in a sea of gray and black and the oversized outerwear that would be the chicest way to stay warm in the coming months.

The inspiration from Chanel’s show led me to choose a big red turtleneck sweater as part of this look. While I will probably not be donning a Chanel coat anytime soon (still keeping my fingers crossed though), this sweater gives me the same vibes I got from the big buffalo check coats in Lagerfeld’s show. While some people steer clear of turtlenecks as they can be a bit overpowering and intimidating, I like to embrace this style because it’s functional and stylish. I added my mini Balenciaga bag as a nod to the classic red and black buffalo print and because it’s my favorite bag right now. I really can’t get enough of it. I opted for a pair of light distressed skinny jeans, some leopard loafers and oversized aviators to make the outfit super casual while still looking polished.

Get My Look: 1. Red turtleneck sweater. 2. Light distressed jeans. 3. Leopard loafers.
