STYLE GURU STYLE: Darker Tones for Lighter Days

For most people winter is in full force, unless you live in Mississippi, like I do, where the weather can’t make up its mind. One day it’s freezing cold and the next it feels like a summer day, making it almost impossible to decide what to wear. Although it was challenging, I found a way to stay fashionable all while dealing with the sudden weather changes.

I love wearing dark colors, especially for the winter, because it makes everything more sleek and stylish. For this particular look, I wanted something that I can conquer the world in, and although it was about 70 degrees this proved to be the perfect outfit. All around campus I have been seeing people adapt to the rapid weather changes by doing interesting things to their outfits, by adding a cool jacket, or mixing different textures.

For this look, I paired a simple, black short-sleeved sweater with a navy blue and white floral print, bodycon skirt. I added a pair of black suede, lace-up heels with minimal jewelry; only opting to go with a pair of silver earrings. I decided to add one last minute touch to this outfit by draping a black, leather jacket over my shoulders. The jacket draping trend was inspired by Kim Kardashian, and I felt as if it gave the outfit just the right amount of edge. The lightweight sweater and bodycon skirt proved to be light enough so that I wouldn’t pass out from the heat, but also appropriate enough for an odd winter day. I decided to keep everything dark with the colors, also choosing to complete the look with a dark lip, sort of giving a chic ’90s grunge vibe.

Whether is cold or hot outside, this outfit is perfect. It’s stylish and simple and is sure to turn heads no matter where you go.
