STYLE GURU BIO: Sara Tilley

Hi Fashionistas! My name is Sara Tilley and I’m so excited to be writing for CollegeFashionista this semester! I am currently at an awkward stage between junior and senior year—we’ll say I’m a Junior and three quarters – at The University of Mary Washington majoring in English with a concentration in creative writing.

As an English major, I use writing to express myself and fashion allows me the same opportunity without having to say or write anything. I think that is what I love so much about it, that you are able to show how you’re feeling simply by your outfit choice.

My love affair with fashion started when I was a little girl and I continue to play “dress up” to this day. I grew up on a farm and rode horses for the first 18 years of my life, so my uniform was always riding boots and patched riding pants. Who knew that the equestrian look would be so fashionable now!?

I love breaking old fashion rules like mixing black and navy, black and brown and mixing different prints. My closet is full of simple pieces that I can mix and match and, of course, I have several little black dresses, which I believe are staple pieces in any woman’s wardrobe. I always add a pop of color with a bold lip or a bright heel to liven up my outfit—especially during the summer.

My most recent obsession is recreating looks I love from blogs, but adding my own little twists to make it more “me”. My favorites to follow are Sincerely Jules, Peace Love Shea and Happily Grey. I am currently swooning over this Céline bag as we transition into Fall.

In this outfit, I am wearing my favorite boyfriend jeans and a chambray button-down. I love the idea of a monochromatic look, so I tried to create one with denim on denim. I paired it with a nude heel to keep the look simple and classy. My purse, a recent addition to my collection, is Rebecca Minkoff, who is one of my absolute favorite designers.
