Can we all have a round of applause for the fact that this was finished and turned in on time? Having said that, hi there! I’m Katherine (Katie if you so please) Gassmann, and one of the first things I will tell you about myself is that I am a chronic procrastinator and perfectionist. Great combination, no? You could say that fashion is a fantastic career for me because it is a combination of artist creativity and free spirit, but somewhere, looming darkly in the future, there is always a deadline.
Fashion was not always my passion. I cannot truthfully say that I was one of those middle school girls who poured over Vogue, waiting for NYFW and the new collections to be released. I am an artist by trade, actually. I started my first two years of college studying Art and Visual Communications. Fashion had started to spark my interest around my senior year of high school, and I considered flying halfway across the country to study on one of the coasts (I’m from dead center Midwest- Go Cardinals!). The idea just seemed so dream-like that I let it keep me from doing what I would eventually end up studying anyway! I am currently a junior year transfer student at Western Illinois University studying Fashion Merchandising. CollegeFasionista came into my life by chance, honestly, when a classmate told me about her experience a year ago. With just a few clicks around the website, I was hooked.
Fashion journalism and management are truly my passions. I love to report what I see with words or a camera. Consequently, I also write my own personal style blog called The Style Duckling. My own personal style is lodge somewhere between eclectic punk hipster and high-end prep. I’m not 100% sure what that means, but it’s the most accurate description I’ve come up with in quite a while. All in all, I’m absolutely ecstatic to have this opportunity to write with CollegeFashionista this semester. The people, the fashion, the experience, bring it on!
