STYLE GURU BIO: Jaclyn Carleton

Hi there my fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Jaclyn (my friends call me Jaci) and I am beyond stoked to become a Style Guru for the fall 2015 semester. I am studying marketing and entering my senior year at San Diego State University. This is my first time writing for CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to see what this semester has in store for me.

Originally from San Diego, I have also had the opportunity to live in San Luis Obispo and San Francisco for a few years before coming back to sunny San Diego. Beyond California, I have traveled to many places around the United States. New York is my absolute favorite. Um hello, any SATC fanatics out there like me? This past summer I visited Paris, Venice and Rome. After falling in love with Europe, I am itching to go back and hoping to get the chance to travel throughout the world, learning and experiencing different cultures, lifestyles and most of all fashion, trends.

Other than my obsession with fashion, I am crazy about my five-year-old Golden Retriever, Bella. You can find pictures and videos of Bella all over my phone, Facebook, Instagram and, most importantly, my Snapchat (Oops!). Besides traveling, I enjoy hiking, music and concerts, shopping and spending time with my friends and family.

Although, I spend most of my time scrolling through fashion posts on Instagram and pinning to my “dream closet” Pinterest board, admiring everyday Fashionistas on the street is a great pastime of mine. What I especially love about fashion is how versatile it is. Mixing different trends and putting together different pieces depending on my mood or event makes styling an outfit so fun and exciting.

A few of my favorite stores are Nordstrom, Madewell, Zara and Urban Outfitters. A few of my fashion icons are Kourtney Kardashian, Kate Bosworth and Jessica Alba. Can I have their closets please?

Enough about me, let’s talk fashion! Mixing old trends with new ones inspired my outfit and let’s face it people, jean skirts are back. My outfit incorporates the ’70s throwback inspired button-down denim mini skirt from Topshop with black, cutout gladiator sandals. The subtle striped crop top is from Zara and can be worn with a cute high-waisted skirt or denim jeans. I’m obsessed with my black fringe clutch from Abercrombie. This look is finished off with my everyday jewelry pieces – a gold Michael Kors watch, Forever 21 silver ring pieces and some gold layering necklaces.

One of my favorite designers, Yves Saint Laurent, once said, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” With that being said, I can’t wait to share this fall’s fashion styles.
