STYLE GURU BIO: Cherileigh Co

Hey Fashionista/os! My name is Cherileigh Co, but you can call me Cher. This is my second semester as a Style Guru and I’m a junior at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. I’m a journalism major and it’s my dream to write for fashion magazines.

My interest in journalism began when I was in high school. I was passionate about english and writing non-fiction. Style has always been prominent in my life and fashion and writing are my two passions. Fashion is not just a commodity. It’s a social tool used to express ourselves. How you choose to style yourself plays a part on how the world sees you. I enjoy how versatile it can be: fun, daring, simple or functional. All in all, it goes back to the self and how clothing and accessories translate who you are.

Toronto is a city filled with street style galore. Although Ryerson is mainly a commuter school, it plays a big role in the “6ix.” Our campus is in the heart of downtown Toronto and the students truly show off how fashion is very important to us. I can never go to school without staying true to my aesthetic and looking presentable. Whenever I’m in the city, it feels like home. It’s difficult to not fall in love with Toronto because of its radiant multiculturalism which offers so many unique tastes in food and fashion.

As Yves Saint Laurent said, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” My personal style is a mix of boho and vintage. Currently, my obsession is the pair of ALDO boots that look like Acne Pistols but for a sensible price. My staples for the transition from fall to summer are: a felt hat, my Zara fringe kimono and vintage jean shorts from Public Butter, a vintage store.

Stay tuned to my style posts because, I’m looking forward get back on the streets and look out for trendsetters like you and I.
