STYLE ADVICE: Strutting Into Spring

May 5th, 2017 at 2:00am

Rosebuds. Windows down. Denim cut-offs. Wooden benches. Mint nail polish. Tandem bikes. Leather totes. Raspberry lemonade. Off-the-shoulder tops and whimsical floral frocks.

With springtime comes the rebirth of so many beautiful, cherished things, the most vibrant of which I would argue are those moments spent soaking in the sunshine amidst a garden made up not only of fanciful florals but loved ones—not to mention the utter joy that comes along with the turn of the season and its budding new trends. Sweet temperature changes and sunny dispositions mirror the playful, exuberant nature of springtime apparel. A quick glimpse at your weather app can clue you into the fact that it’s finally time to kick your cable knits to the curb and, like this fourth-year Fashionista, lace up, strut outside, and let loose a little!

Worried that “spring has sprung” but your closet hasn’t quite followed suit? Does the thought of leaving the comfort of your coziest cords feel a bit unsettling? Ease into the season with transitional pieces that take you from bundled to lightweight and bright without a fright. A few days past I opted to frolic to class on one of the most beautiful days of the year thus far, the wind bustling through my blonde mane as though Mother Nature were gleefully saying hello for the first time in a while. I opened my eyes behind my oversize sunglasses to a 22-year-old embodying this springtime metamorphosis and giving new meaning to “effortless chic.”

Strut into spring with the right foot forward by looking no further than this sunshine-loving Fashionista. A tie-belt adds a touch of charm to a striped, breezy cotton frock, while a neutral color palette acts as a point of contrast to the floral frenzy that blooms this time of year. Showcase your sassy style and freshly painted nails by dipping your toes into the lace-up sandal trend this season; consider opting for a pair in a warm, inviting caramel tone that will act as the seamless finishing touch to every springtime ensemble. No time to the market but craving some poppies?  A vibrant bouquet right on your phone will do the trick. Dainty dashes of glimmer and a cute crossbody will take your look from seedling to sunflower in no time.
