STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Preppy Professionalism

September 23rd, 2015 at 2:00am

I know everyone says that their home state has the craziest weather, but Oklahoma definitely has the craziest weather. Last winter, we had a huge snow storm! This summer, it was over 100 degrees almost every single day. And now, here we are in the middle of September, and it still gets up in the 90s almost everyday. How are we supposed to cope with that?! It can drive even the most savvy Fashionisto (especially one who likes to wear layers) mad.

The thing about Oklahoma weather though, is when it’s good, it’s good. Today started out stormy but ended with a balmy 86 degrees. How are you supposed to dress professionally when you can’t predict how the weather will treat you that day? This Fashionisto has the perfect solution. Keep it simple.

First, brighten up everyone’s day with a pair of sun yellow slacks. If yellow is too much of an attention grabber for you, try a dark green! Second, a patterned chambray button-down keeps you from looking too much like a toddler on Easter. You could even go for a short sleeved option and a brown dress shoes to pull it all together.

Honestly, I think this Fashionisto could be on his way to work at a top magazine or PR firm, which is his dream. When I ran into this Fashionisto and started talking to him about his day, he told me about how he just got an amazing new job with the university that will really help him in his future careers! He had just come from his second interview!

What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Never try too hard. If people think it comes naturally, whether that’s true or not, they tend to like you more. When it’s obvious that someone is trying too hard on an outfit, it just seems insincere, and you don’t want that!”
