STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Layering for the Perfect Fall Outfit

I live in the Midwest, so the fall season is kind of difficult to understand sometimes. There are days where you need to wear your chunky knitted sweater, while the next day wearing sandals and shorts will not be a problem. I know it sounds a little extreme, but I have been struggling to choose the perfect outfit with these temperature changes for a while now.

Autumn is all about layers! One of the things that I know a lot of people strive to obtain is mixing and matching thin layers to stay warm. Today’s post is written to all of the Fashionistas and Fashionistos out there! I have been wandering around campus trying to find an outfit inspiration from those who are not afraid to show their fashionable side.
Men and women can look stylish with a few layers on them. The lesson that I have learned every time I go shopping is that if people choose their clothing pieces very carefully, they can transform something simple into a contemporary/sophisticated style.

First, I want to discuss sweaters. Try picking something that is not very thick nor light. If at the beginning of the day you are feeling chilly, you can still keep yourself warm without having to wear a chunky sweater. Basic sweater colors are a MUST, but if you like to take your Fashionista/o side to the next level printed shirts are perfect, too. If you mix and match them with a jacket, they can go with everything.

Second, let’s talk about jackets. Whether it is a light jacket or a faux fur sweater, a jacket is an important piece of your outfit. I have always been a fan of leather jackets. Every time I watched John Travolta in Grease or Elvis Presley’s music videos, I noticed that leather jackets were the important piece of their outfits. Leather jackets or faux leather jackets give you attitude, protect you from the cold and are chic. Adding a leather jacket to your closet will not be a bad idea after all.

Third, I want to discuss how to choose your pants and accessories for the perfect final touch. Fall is the season of chic pants. If you mix your top layers with basic colors, choosing your bottoms will not be an issue at all. Light or dark pants are essential for your fashionable outfit. Finally, give the final touch to this masterpiece with a watch (any watch) and a stylish scarf.
