WHAT TO WEAR: Tailgating

It’s that time of year again: tailgate season! Personally, I like to plan my outfits so I can wear something cute, trendy and coordinated, but you can wear whatever floats your boat. I know I saw people at the last game wearing roller-blades and tutus! In this culture, as long as you’re wearing your school colors, anything goes.

Here in Iowa City, we have a store called Tailgate that carries the perfect clothing to wear to tailgate (it only makes sense with a name like that). This Fashionista found her tailgating dress here, but added her own DIY with a black headband. She made a bow with her headband to tie the back of her dress up. The bow gave shape to the dress and also made it more feminine.

Last, but not least: you need a purse if you are going tailgating. I cannot tell you how many people I know who have lost things at tailgate. You don’t need a large purse; all you need is something that fits your keys, phone and a pair of sunglasses. A small purse is so easy to find, too. I use a purse that I have had for a while and it has been a lifesaver.

One Simple Change: Chances are you will be covered in mud by the end of the day. I recommend wearing closed toe shoes and if they are easy to clean, even better! Last time I went tailgating, I wore a pair of Hunter Boots. This quite possibly may have been the best decision I have ever made. A pair of weather-proof boots are perfect for rainy, fall weather.
