WHAT TO WEAR: Minty Fresh Minimalism

Have you ever experienced that blissful sensation of happiness, freedom, and hopefulness when warm sunny days suddenly replace cold gray ones? That’s how I feel when I see pastels popping up in stores, on the streets, and on my Instagram feed. Don’t get me wrong, I love myself some earthy fall tones, but once my eyes meet those bright colors, I experience an overwhelming sense of joy, as if these pastel-colored clothes, makeup, and accessories serve as a reminder that my old friend spring is coming back.

This Fashionista is the walking, talking version of that blissful feeling. Her golden hair, glowing skin, and pastel-based outfit all work together perfectly to send out the message loud and clear: don’t fear, spring is coming! Of course, we can’t get ahead of ourselves—it isn’t officially spring until the end of the month (thanks for nothing, Punxsutawney Phil)—but the time has come to slowly begin transitioning our wardrobes from one season to the next.

This Fashionista perfectly executed the ideal look for this transition period by introducing spring into her color palette. The mint in her outfit is a refreshing hue, that reminds me of the glimmering water of a pool or the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean (and with a color associated with such wonderful things, how could anyone feel down while wearing it?). In addition to mint, the only other colors present in this Fashionista’s outfit are encompassed in her dusty plum matte lipstick, white top, and sporadic gold accents.

While this Fashionista’s outfit is very simple, it nevertheless embodies a simultaneously bold, alluring, and “minty fresh” look. If outfits required names, I’d call this one “mint minimalism.” The look is polished but effortless, fully embracing the adage “less is more.” There is no need for stacks of bracelets, elaborate earrings, or other excessive jewelry because the combination of the mint with various textures adds the perfect amount of dimension and flair. This Fashionista successfully utilized textures into her look through her waffle knit top, moto jeggings, and woven-bottom clutch. Another major contribution to the look is the gold Aztec-styled cuff. With a turquoise stone in the center, this statement bracelet keeps up the mint momentum, and ties in her simple gold post earrings, gold ring, and strappy gold gladiator sandals.

While this Fashionista opted for a pop of mint in her transitional wardrobe, you can substitute that for a pop of any other pastel color. The key to successfully rocking these pops of color is to combine it with white, black, or gray, thus allowing the color to pop in its own subtle, pastel way. If you’re like me and can feel uneasy veering away from your black wardrobe, then I suggest you introduce a spring-palette color into your outfit through nail polish, jewelry, or a fresh spring scarf. Spring puts a spring back in everyone’s step (pun intended) so it is important to pair the perfect spring colored look with your perky spring strut!
