WHAT TO WEAR: Fall

During my first days in London, it was a bit of a shock going straight from New York City’s 80 degree weather to 60 degrees and constant rain. Unlike spending the first couple weeks of classes in shorts and sandals back in New York, my back to school attire will consist of jeans, boots and sweaters this year. I quickly learned that a waterproof jacket, a good pair of rain boots and an umbrella are must-have items here for the fall.

This Fashionista sports an outfit made for strolling about the city in the fall. Heading for a day of shopping on Oxford Street, she’s prepared for the unpredictable weather with a beige trench coat and a simple pair of booties. Trench coats are great as the weather transitions from summer to fall. Because they’re generally lightweight, they make awesome layering pieces. They also do well in rainy weather, which comes in handy when there’s a sudden downpour. This Fashionista sticks to neutral colors throughout her outfit, adding a contrasting shade of teal through her cross-body bag. Her look is still somewhat reminiscent of summer, as she wears a flowy tank top underneath her trench coat and adds pops of color with her accessories. These first few weeks of fall, it’s important keep in mind the weather change in order to dress practically. Just as this Fashionista demonstrates, however, throwing in the summer pieces you aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to yet is completely doable.

One Simple Change: Thinking of making this into a day to night look? Swap the trench coat for a leather jacket and the booties for your favorite pair of heels. Top it all off with your favorite bold lipstick.
