WHAT TO WEAR: Fall

I’m not sure about other colleges, but there is definitely a fall “uniform” that girls at GW wear. The look goes something like this: jeans, riding boots, long-sleeve shirt, J.Crew Excursion vest, scarf and a Longchamp bag. When you see this outfit, you know it’s officially fall on campus. I’m not going to say I’ve never been one of those girls in this outfit, because I definitely have, but I’m kind of over seeing this again and again. That’s why I get so excited when I see someone in an exciting fall outfit that doesn’t follow the typical GW mold.

This Fashionista is wearing a fun and colorful outfit for fall. Her dark green pants are the cool girl staple piece that everyone should have in their closet. They will make any outfit look chic and add an unexpected pop of color. With the green pants, this Fashionista is rocking a floral top with a cinched waist. While florals are traditionally thought of as a spring print, wearing them in the fall can be just as effective. The reds and greens in the print also lend themselves well to the season and look great paired with the green pants. When you’re wearing lots of print and color, it’s important to balance those out with some neutrals. Her black flats and amazing leather tote tone the look down a bit without taking away from the style.

Now we all know that I love a good trench and this Fashionista’s is no exception! The trench is the perfect fall jacket. It’s warm, waterproof and not black. While I don’t have anything against the color black, I just find it to be so expected in these cooler months. My advice: if you really want to stand out this season, rock some color!

One Simple Change: Moving into the cold months of winter, don’t get sucked into the norm by wearing a boring black coat. Getting a parka in a fun color or print will make you stand out in the below-freezing temperatures coming up.
