WHAT TO WEAR: Fall

September 16th, 2015 at 2:07am

As summer comes to a close and school starts up, we all find ourselves subject to the unpredictable temperature changes that fall can bring.  Especially here in western New York, days can range anywhere from freezing cold to scalding hot, so diversity in your style is a must.

For those skeptical of unreliable forecasts, easily removable layers are your best bet.  Layers that can be easily put on and removed such as button-downs and light jackets allow for you to add on layers when the temperature lands on the colder side and shed layers in the case of unexpected humidity.

For this look, this Fashionisto utilized both removable layers and the power of simplicity to complete this stylish late summer outfit. Rocking a blend of bold and neutral colors, this look is nothing short of being effortlessly cool. For neutral colors, this Fashionisto chose a pair of plain black Vans accompanied by a plain black crewneck T-shirt.  Here, utilizing these neutral colors was effective because it puts the focus on this pair of bold pants, and let’s be honest; this straight leg maroon pant is a definite showstopper.

I suggest having one prominent piece and framing it with some more standard articles of clothing. The accompaniment of both a bold and neutral color makes a statement without going overboard, which is a difficult thing to do sometimes.

This Fashionisto decided to add more than one subtle pattern into his look. This standard denim button-down is brought to life with these black and white striped cuffs. This is just enough of a pattern to add something interesting to the look without taking away from the show-stopping pants.

While there are other specific details in this outfit, it seemed important to talk about his haircut as grooming really is the finishing touch to your style. This hairstyle is perfectly in between long and short hair.  This Fashionisto uses a lower holding mousse to keep his hair in place, while still keeping a “wind blown” sort of look.  It’s hard to gauge, but try not to go overboard with the hair product because you might find yourself looking a bit too much like John Travolta in Grease when it dries.

One Simple Change: The most important thing is to have fun with and feel comfortable in the clothes you wear.  Remember, you can always shed layers during hotter temperatures.  Exchange these maroon pants for a pair of maroon deck shorts on those early fall days, which feel more like summer.  Personalize your attire, and make it your own!
