WHAT TO WEAR: Day to Night

Is it getting colder in your zip code? Where I am heading back to classes, the warm temperatures and abundance of daylight begin to fade as the fall semester moves onward.

Amidst the summertime sadness, we captured this street style moment next to our Batavia, NY campus. It was such a fitting location for September style in this area, but still super fun and out of the ordinary; an exciting fashion week esque moment of our own. Aside from the background details, the focal point, this Fashionista’s back to school look, puts in an appearance from day to night.

The statement accessories do most of the talking at first glance. The zipper and studded details on her jacket worked well in combination with the cuff bracelet and gold earrings. Her daring lip shade was a perfectly feminine beauty touch with the leather, camoflague and boyfriend denim being so opposing and masculine. This look was made to take on a full day of events from head to toe. For this fellow Fashion Merchandising student, that meant morning classes, followed by a night of real life work in retail at her part-time job off campus.

Although the print on her T-shirt seems to be at home in this setting, rest assured it remains trendy and chic for any casual occasion regardless of location. While taking detail shots, we also discovered the playful mix of the jacket lining against her T-shirt: subtle reminders that patterns and prints are in all actuality, meant to mingle.

Despite the present Jekyll and Hyde weather, your summer wardrobe can move into fall with the addition of a sleek, stylish black leather jacket, as seen here—truly a timeless investment piece for any young, 20-something’s wardrobe. This outfit will not disappoint whether you’re in class, at lunch or out for the evening. It has the perfect potion: equal parts style, comfort and freedomboth creatively and physically.

We have seen variations of these increasingly unique separates in designer collections, bloggers and industry trendsetters all over the map for a while now. They’re holding their on-trend ground and rapidly reinventing themselves as we create more ways to wear them. The simple and contrasting vibes of the T-shirt, denim, jacket and sandals make for a chic and up-to-date, wear-anywhere ensemble. When you dress well (and to your liking) you will feel at ease and ready to take on what both today and tomorrow have in store.

One Simple Change: If you find yourself in need of an outfit for traveling, keep this one in mind. Trade those sandals for all-black, low-top Converse or sneaker wedges—easier on your feet after a plane ride and nicer to navigate in. If fall attire is what you’re after but the loose-fitting denim here just isn’t for you, there are other options: cuffed ankle (boot cut), wide leg pants or even skinny jeans with some leather/moto details.
