WHAT TO WEAR: Celebration

One of my favorite parts about the fall season is that it is full of holidays and reasons to celebrate. Although I count down the days until these events I’m usually too busy to plan my outfits for Thanksgiving and Christmas until the very last minute. This year, I’ll be laying out the guidelines for myself and for you so that you have time to plan the perfect holiday celebration look!

When piecing together a celebration outfit, it’s necessary to balance trends with the appropriateness of being with family. This Fashionista totally nails it. She pairs together a cream cropped turtleneck with a black tweed skirt, black tights, black booties and a gray clutch. Worried about wearing a cropped shirt to Thanksgiving dinner? Don’t be. A cropped turtleneck is trendy and totally appropriate when worn with a high-waisted skirt. This Fashionista rocks this combination, and when paired with black tights the length of her skirt is cute and flattering.

While I love neutral tones for fall, I know that not everyone feels that way. If you love color in your wardrobe you may think that a neutral toned outfit is boring. It isn’t! To make a neutral-toned outfit really pop, try mixing together different textures. This Fashionista’s look is so eye-catching because she combines the ribbed knit of the turtleneck with the tweed of the skirt. Pairing together different textures is unexpected and totally cool! Another way to really make a neutral outfit stand out is by choosing a really unique clutch to complete this look. I love this Fashionista’s clutch because of the quilted detail, but choosing a bag with a chain trim, interesting pattern or pop of color can also make this outfit really memorable.

One Simple Change: Going out with friends on Thanksgiving eve? Trade in the tweed skirt for black leather, and the cream turtleneck for something a little more fitted! If you’re feeling cold, a great alternative to booties is black over-the-knee boots as these are so on trend this season and are the finishing touch on any fall look!
