STYLE GURU STYLE: You're from the '70s, But I'm a '90s Chick

The old saying “everything old is new again” definitely applies to this year’s spring trends, as we have seen some heavy ‘70s and ‘90s vibes from many designers. Some of my favorite spring 2016 collections include Yves Saint Laurent, ADEAM and Proenza Schouler. However, the one collection that gave me the most inspiration was Chloé spring 2016 ready-to-wear. Clare Waight Keller mixes various textures and materials to create a collection worthy of being in every woman’s closet. She includes MC Hammer pants, off-the-shoulder tops and oversized denim separates, all in a fresh bohemian color palette. It’s safe to say many are feeling joyful about this collection. It is the seamless mix of ‘70s freedom and ‘90s playfulness that allows the modern woman to tap into her romantic and youthful side.

One of the main silhouettes featured in the show was the off-the-shoulder top. This piece has made such a comeback that it’s hard to go anywhere without seeing someone wearing their take on the trend. Waight Keller featured many different versions, including a denim maxi dress and a fun spin on the ever popular athleisure trend. For this outfit, I decided to keep things fairly simple with a crisp white top that features oversized bell sleeves. The beauty of the plain white is that I can dress this top up or down with ease. Off-the-shoulder tops are such a versatile piece because they show just the right amount of skin and can be transformed from something as casual as a beach cover-up to an elegant outfit for a night out and even a fun festival ensemble.

I paired my top with a pair of light wash distressed jeans that feature another cool trend this season in the cut off and dyed bottom hems. These jeans have quickly become my go-to pair because they are just so comfortable. They have just enough distressing to make them suitable for everyday use and the wash is just light enough to be worn year-round.

To keep things fun and feminine, I wore a pair of tan platform wedges, but this outfit can easily be worn with a pair of cute lace-up sandals or even some funky sneakers. Because these pieces are all so simple and classic, it is super easy to accessorize them to fit your personality and mood. I felt like channeling my inner Esmeralda and decided to add some pieces of turquoise jewelry. I kept my hair and makeup simple with just a pop of magenta liquid lipstick.

Get My Look: 1. Off-the-shoulder top. 2. Distressed jeans. 3. Platform wedges.
