STYLE GURU STYLE: Valentino Velvet

If you read my STYLE GURU BIO then you already know that my fashion favorites include Steve Madden and leather of all designs. What you do not know is that I am completely mesmerized by greek and roman mythology, this is why I found Valentino’s spring 2016 Couture show so inspiring.

Valentino’s haute couture collection was described by Vogue as “an exotic early-20th-century Venetian-pagan romanticism.” The early 20th century romanticism was shown in classic Valentino style, gorgeous floor-length dresses and at times transparent fabrics or richly colored velvets. The ode to venetian-paganism was expressed by how they accessorized. Models marched barefoot down the runway with gold metal serpents coiled around their ankles complete with matching head pieces and bold body chains.

To take this inspiration from the runway to reality, I used my go-to formula of pairing feminine with fierce for this fun flirty look. Influenced by a combination of the beautiful burgundy velvet in Look 56 and the intoxicatingly sheer black fabric showcased in Look 32, I chose a long-sleeved top with a burgundy velvet pattern on black transparent fabric. To balance the out the delicate top, I paired it with an edgy asymmetrical black leather mini-skirt with silver zippers. I (obviously) accessorized with black leather booties from Steve Madden and a neutral light gray rectangular structured bag to brighten up this color dark scheme.

Get My Look: 1. Burgundy velvet top. 2. Black leather mini-skirt with silver zippers. 3. Black leather booties.
