STYLE GURU STYLE: Valentino In Africa

With fashion month just ending, it was finally time to decide my personal favorite runway look. The winner for me was the Valentino spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. I loved the dark earth-toned colors they chose for their apparel and bags. The dresses were out of this world; the collection debuted little black dresses with small cutouts and jeweled details. I especially loved the African detailed twist they added to their jewelry, particularly the bold statement necklaces. Necklaces ranged from elephant pendants to white ivory chokers, and they were all really eye catching and spectacular. Next were the shoes, with most looks being paired with lace-up sandals. The models’ hair was braided back in cornrows and make up was minimal with highly accentuated cheekbones being the center of attention.

This style is my favorite as I usually stick to earth tones and minimal jewelry. In my look, I chose to wear a black dress with metal details. Similar to the Valentino dresses, it has the right amount of “pop” with the metal embellishments being the perfect level of showy. This dress is super easy to slip on and it is an ideal length to do anything in—not too short and not too long. I chose two necklaces, a pendant to match the majority of the Valentino looks as well as a choker to dress it down a bit. Both are simple and compliment each other as well as the whole look nicely. For my shoes, I chose my black lace-up flats, similar to the Valentino lace-up sandals in most of the runway looks. These shoes are super comfortable and chic, and they are really easy to walk around campus in.

Get my look: 1. Black dress with metal embellishments. 2. Black choker and a black and silver pendant. 3. BlackFlace-up flats.
