STYLE GURU STYLE: Underground Bohemian

As a girl that enjoys comfort, I have always been a huge fan of a good bohemian look. The effortless flow of a boho sundress or blouse is something that I’ve long appreciated. As the vintage looks of Woodstock make their way back into the closets of many young Fashionistas, designers have started to incorporated a more effortless style into their runway shows. Anna Sui is a designer who is known for changing the conventional idea of a bohemian look. In her fall 2016 ready-to-wear runway show, Sui brings a more underground, bold bohemian look to the playing field. In this show, she uses darker earth tones, furs, beads and bold patterns to create a look we have yet to see.

I love the way that Anna Sui takes such a popular trend and makes it completely different than anything else. Taking note of this, I wanted to recreate a look that is similar to my usual bohemian style, but different from anything I had seen before. I found this was easiest done by layering several pieces together. This patterned sundress is perfect for a hot summer day by itself, but by pairing the metal beaded pattern with a contrasting lace bralette gave this outfit a whole new feel. Taking note on the tones used in Anna Sui’s show, I wanted to incorporate colors that were not usually used in summer looks. The burnt orange and red pattern gave this sweet and flowy dress the harsher feeling that Sui portrays with her designs.

So take note from Anna Sui and switch up your normal style this semester! Layer items together and create your own look; step outside of your comfort zone and don’t forget to stay RAD!
